It's that time again! Kyle is back this week with some Great Frugal Decorating Ideas!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife and I have been doing some home decorating projects the past few weeks. Which means she has been telling me what to do I have been temporarily obliging. We updated some family pictures hanging on the walls with new frames, painted the family room, and added some new decor to our bathrooms. We didn't spend much money doing these things. We do all the painting ourselves and pick up a lot of our wall decor and various home decor at yard sales, thrift stores, and at Target.com or All Posters.com. Here are a few of my favorite ways to decorate without breaking the bank.
~ De-Clutter and Organize - I walked into a friend's family room a couple weeks ago and said, "Wow, I like what you guys did in here. Is this coffee table new?" She said, "No, we just organized and got rid of a lot of clutter." It totally blew me away. Before you do anything major to a room, first simplify the space by getting rid of clutter, toys, dust collectors, and knick-knacks. I think you will be amazed at the difference it makes. As it turns out, their coffee table was not new, you could just see it now!
~ Find The DaVinci In You - One of the frugaliest ways to change the look of a room is to paint it yourself. If you have a Home Depot in the town you live in, go there on weekends (typically Saturday mornings), and take advantage of their free paint classes. They teach techniques like faux painting and how to pick the right color for your room.
~ Try Re-Arranging First - Instead of going out and buying a bunch of new stuff, first try re-arranging the furniture and wall decor that you do have. You just may be amazed at how much you like the new look.
Please feel free to add to my list! Looking forward to your ideas and comments. Here are some online coupons that hopefully can save you some money on your next decorating project.

Free Family Summer Fun!

Trying to find something fun & productive (don't forget inexpensive!) for the kids during the summer months are always a challenge for us. Each summer the kids want to do/go somewhere but we usually cannot afford the expensive camps and art classes, so we usually try to find parks & playgrounds to go to. Reader Jill sent us this idea which is perfect (and affordble, lol!):
When school's out, kids around the country can visit selected Regal theatres for the Free Family Film Festival. It's a fun-filled nine weeks of movies for kids and parents. Since 1991, Regal has provided this service to the community, and best of all it's FREE!
Selected G & PG movies start at 10AM each Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. First-come, first-served seating is limited to theatre capacity. The Free Family Film Festival is safe, lots of fun and a great way for kids to spend a weekday morning in the summer.
You can see the Summer Schedule here.
The movies are pretty costly these days and are a RARE treat at my house. I really can't see spending $40 just for us to go out so this is a great deal that you can't beat!
Anyone else have any other Frugal fun Summer Ideas? We really do need some ideas!!

A New Feature and a Giveaway!

You see the header? I made it myself, I did! It took me almost 10 hours to get it right but I finally did it!! I still need to tweak it just a bit more though:)
So the reason behind the banner? Each week we are going to be setting up a Mr. Linky for everyone to post their Shopping Trips and their Weekly Savings Stories. I always love hearing about how much everyone saves as it can inspire others who are new to using Coupons and Frugality! The posts will help serve as a reminder as to why we sometimes go without and that the hard work we put into saving is truly rewarding and worthwhile!
Each Tuesday (I chose Tuesdays so that we can all get a bit of ispiration in the beginning of the week to help us get through the week!)we will put up the Mr Linky for you to post your savings story. It can be on anything not just the Groceries or on "CVS Deals". It doesn't have to be the same week as well, I understand that its only Tuesday! Did you save money on your electric bill last month? Tell us how and how much, we are here to inspire others with creatives means of saving any way we can.Did you get a great deal online? Share your story with everyone here!
This is a 2 part feature as well. After everyone has posted their awesome stories, at the end of the week, we will pick a person who has done some "Super Savings" and award them with a Blog Award to prominently display on your blog (currently under construction) as well send a small gift such as an envelope of coupons, a book, etc. I think everyone should be rewarded for their hard work and great savings!
How to enter each week:
Just post about your Super Saving Story on your blog and be sure to grab our header for your post. (if you need help on how to get the banner, email me and I'll help!)
Link back to us in your post.
Come back here and put your link in Mr Linky. The links will be closed on Saturday @ 8 pm EST so you will have plenty of time to get your deals!
Sit back and watch for the Savings Stories of others to get inspired!
On Sundays, we will pick a winner who has the best and or creative story for the Bloggy Award and send their gift that week! We will also put their story up on SisterlySavings on Mondays for everyone to check out!
Let the fun begin: This week, we are giving away 2 Copies of the CouponMom's book :"The Greatest Secrets of the CouponMom". Its a wonderful resource for anyone just starting out or needing a referesher course!
*Please be sure to follow the rules so that you get a chance to win!

Funnel Cakes

Funnel cakes are one of our favorite treats to make/eat at home and are so easy to whip up with all the ingredients being readily available! And it makes for a quick snack when the kids' friends come over!
Which is why when I saw this Funnel Cake Kit, I just had to have it! It was only $9.99 and the pour spout is definately a step up from the sandwich baggies I used with the tip snipped off! Hopefully it will prove less messier as well which led my daughter to say "Where's the fun in that?". Hmmm..clean or fun? I'll let you decide for yourself, lol!
In the meantime, here is a favorite recipe we use at home to make our own batter that we got from here. After trying many dif recipes, we found this one to be the best!!
Funnel Cakes
Ingredients:
3 eggs
2 cups milk
1/4 cup white sugar
3 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
Directions:
In a medium bowl, mix salt, baking powder, and half of the flour. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream eggs, sugar and milk. Add flour mixture and beat until smooth. Continue to add remaining flour, but use only enough to achieve desired consistency. Batter will be thin enough to run through a funnel.
In an eight inch skillet, heat the oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Put your finger over the bottom opening of the funnel, and fill the funnel with a generous 1/2 cup of the batter. Hold the funnel close to the surface of the oil, and release the batter into the oil while making a circular motion. Fry until golden brown. Use tongs and wide spatula to turn the cake over carefully. Fry the second side one minute. Drain on paper towels, and sprinkle with sifted confectioners' sugar or cinnamon sugar.
