At our Sav-A-Lot they put meat on sale that must either be frozen or used that day. I always check out the sales and this saves me money.

A good frugal tip, and this comes from a mom of 4 who is almost debt-free, is to avoid buying into the media images of what we’re supposed to wear and buy. Be a free thinker, avoid high fashion, wear good clothes that will be timeless. The same goes for electronics, really everything. Don’t be a sheep that follows what the advertisers want you to buy. Visit thrift stores (Goodwill has wonderfully clean and organized stores with tons of extremely good buys).

When we were surprised by our last pregnancy, we bought everything at yard sales and thrift stores for the new baby, right down to toys, which I washed in the dishwasher. We spent a total of $102 for EVERYTHING, which included (very clean and in great shape) a stroller, high chair, activity walker, clothes, toys, books, play yard, car seat that was brand new, and assorted things like a diaper bag and baby tub. We had already sold everything from our first 3 kids at our yard sale as we never planned our wonderful last baby, so we needed to be thrifty. I even got his crib set with bumpers included in the $102. So many times, moms are just looking to dump or unload their baby things.

That’s my tip!! Hope I win.

I make big batches and then freeze the rest. This saves me money since I buy in bulk. It saves me time too, on those rushed nights I can pull something out of the freezer to heat.

Here’s my Tuesday entry. Frugal tip: get a Brita water filtration system and never buy bottled water again. Just fill and refill reuseable water containers with water from your own tap that’s been Brita-filtered. Worth the one-time investment.

32 Kelly Ann T. February 17, 2009 at 11:38 pm

Here is my entry for Tuesday. When we do go out to eat, I have water for dinner. They prices on drinks can be so high. The portions are huge so I take half home for lunch the following day too.

33 Kelly Ann T. February 18, 2009 at 7:00 am

Please enter me to win today. I shop at our local farmers markets, the prices are better than the stores and the produce is fresher too.

34 Carol February 18, 2009 at 7:59 am

Here is my Wednesday entry. My tip is to limit food shopping to once a week, and plan meals carefully.

35 Kelly Ann T. February 19, 2009 at 7:03 am

I buy off brand and store brand items. I find the quality to be just as good and I save so much money.

36 Carol February 19, 2009 at 10:30 pm

I think being frugal is actually positive fallout from the grim economy. We should all live frugally and within or beneath our means.

40 Kelly Ann T. February 23, 2009 at 9:55 pm

To be more frugal I print and clip coupons from the internet.
