Celebrate the First Day of School with a KinderCone!

by Jennifer on May 25, 2010

My son is 4 years old and will soon be attending school, thank goodness! To celebrate his first day of school, I was thinking of just a fun breakfast and of course with new supplies.  Fun, right? Traditional, yes….

However, we were introduced to an even more creative approach with a fun new concept called the KinderCone. The KinderCone is based on a German tradition dating back to the early 19th century. Oftentimes, the first day of school can be a bittersweet moment in a child’s life, but in Germany and Austria it is marked by a day of celebration and appreciation.

On that day, families present their first grader with their very own Schultüte. Inside, the child finds little gifts, treats, and school supplies.

When we received our KinderCone, I was amazed at all the goodies inside and my son was THRILLED with his new supplies!!

The cone itself was HUGE and inside each KinderCone, you will find: an exclusive KinderJournal “Me,Myself and First Grade”, Karli the Cat plush toy, 5 KinderCone pencils,KinderCone temporary tattoss and a limited-edition certificate as each KinderCone is hand made in Germany!!

While it is meant for a child heading off to 1st grade, I think this would make a great gift each year (up until 4th grade maybe?) to help get the kids to look forward to the start of school.

In fact, I would love to see more for each grade level because I think its a wonderful idea. Although you could purchase the cone itself and fill it with age appropriate items & gifts yourself as well.

It would make a special treat that the kids would look forward to getting and will surely bring back fond childhood memories of their first days of school!!

Disclosure: “I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of KinderCone and received KinderCone samples to facilitate my review. Mom Central also sent me gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
