I used to be a regular run-of-the-mill mom when it came to cell phones. As long as my average cell phone made & received phone calls, I was happy- what more could I possibly need or want? This guide is set up so that anyone can benefit from The Strategic Shopping methods that she created, whether you are a Busy, Rookie or a Varsity Shopper. She has listed 3 different types of shoppers in this book and provides proven money saving techniques for each type so that ultimately everyone can save more, no matter how much time you put into your couponing.
Using coupons has changed quite a bit from a few years back and with the age of internet, there are new ways to save that weren’t available before. This guide is so comprehensive and it covers all aspects from internet coupons, to wholesale shopping and proven strategies on buying meat, dairy and even organic!
There is also a chapter full of budget friendly recipes that you can make that are cheap and healthy!
Of course what would the book be without The Coupon Mom’s own system and website information? This book is written well and is very easy to understand. There are plenty of math examples that she writes out detail so you can see the savings for yourself and I loved the success stories that were smattered in between chapters. It really gives you a sense of excitement to see how others are using her methods to save so much on their grocery bills.
Just reading this book brought back the motivation that sometimes I lack when I am sitting there clipping my coupons or going through my ads. It left me feeling invigorated and made it apparent the reasons why I do use coupons in the first place, which sometimes I miss because it’s more out of habit once you start,lol.

As you may have heard by now, PBM has won a $13.5 million false advertising judgment against Mead Johnson that has the potential of forever changing the $3.4 billion infant formula industry in the United States and saving parents significant money each year.
As a mom of 3, I know firsthand about purchasing store bought brands instead of brand name items and yes, I myself did purchase store brand formulas on quite a few occasions because of the lower cost and I most certainly wasn’t concerned with the store brand being less nutritious just because of the difference in price.
I find it a little shameless for a major (and reputable) company like Mead Johnson to make up such false claims just to sell their products. Mead Johnson’s false allegations actually cost some parents hundreds of dollars extra in one year of formula purchases. If the company was really concerned with the overall nutrition value of a store brand then why didn’t they just lower their prices on their own brand?
Unfortunately, instead of lowering prices Mead Johnson engaged in false and misleading campaigns against PBM’s competing store-brand of infant formulas (which are sold at Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Kroger, Walgreens, and other retailers), suggesting they do not provide the same nutrition as Mead Johnson’s brands.
Mead Johnson actually sent direct mailings to more than 1.6 million parents of “an alarming blurry picture of a child’s cartoon duck next to a clear picture of the same image which suggested that anything other than the Enfamil LIPIL® blend of ingredients is inferior and will result in poor eye and brain development”.
Other parts of the false advertising campaign consist of statements that only Enfamil LIPIL has been proven to confer visual and mental benefits on infants, and store-brand formulas are a “cut-back in nutrition” compared to Enfamil.
PBM Products cost up to 50 percent less than Enfamil® LIPIL® and allows parents to save as much as $600 per year on their formula purchases.
PBM successfully argued that these advertisements were false and misleading especially since PBM store- brand infant formulas have the same nutrients at the same levels as Enfamil. PBM infant formulas are formulated to contain DHA and ARA, and are sourced from the same supplier in amounts which equal or exceed the DHA and ARA in Mead Johnson’s Enfamil LIPIL®.
I think it’s great that Mead Johnson was not able to get away with such misleading information and definitely needs to be held accountable for their actions. If your interested in reading more about the suit, you can read the full press releasehere.

I am a big fan of BJ’s Wholesale Club. Me and my sister shop there about 2 times a month and we really do save a lot of money by buying in bulk. My shopping list usually contains the same items each time I go:
1 case of Kraft American Cheese (which is 5 lbs) for only $8.99- Down here, the price for 1 pound of deli cheese is $6.99 and we go through a lot of sandwiches with the kids and school lunches!
1 case of juice either Kool Aid or Capri Sun for $7.29- these come with (4) 10 pks inside which makes it only $.18 per juice compared to $1.25 for 1 bottle that the school’s cafeteria charges!
30 Rolls of Scott Toilet Tissue for only $17.99, I actually marked down on the calendar when I bought them to see how long it lasts my family and we are currently going on 2 months so far without having to buy more!!
Those are just a few on my list that I always buy from BJ’s and nowhere else. The convenience of not having to run out to the market a lot is a huge timesaver and I definitely do see the savings.
I also like the convenience that almost everything is practically pre packaged for you! The perdue chicken comes in a 24 pk and is already packaged in 4’s so all you do when you get home is place right in your freezer. No more separating the meat and dealing with baggies! The frozen waffles are pre packaged for you so all we do is pull out a few for quick breakfasts and then store the case in our freezer in the basement.
Speaking of freezers, it is a very good idea to have one when you shop at BJ’s because of all the deals you get when you shop in bulk! Just ask my sister who plans on purchasing one next year as her freezer is too full!!

I am currently participating in a Secret Santa that was hosted by TJ Maxx and Marshall’s where we were assigned another blogger to send a gift to. I was also provided with (2) $25 Marshall’s gift cards- one to buy my designated blogger a gift and one for mysef (Thank You Marshall’s & Victoria!).

Now my 4 year old son falls asleep in my bed (yes ,I Know, bad habit but what can I tell you? I’m a sucker for my little man:) and he usually wants me in the room with him to help fall asleep. So I thought that the Twilight Turtle would be good idea to try to help him fall asleep on his own.

Its been awhile since I participated in a MEME and I am excited to be a part of this one where we get to share the things we love including product reviews!
I recently got to try out the new state of the art Swiffer Wet Jet as part of a covert mommy mission: Operation Enduring Clean. Its been redesigned with dual handles, a bigger scrubbing strip and is made even sturdier!
It was quite an easy set up to get the Swiffer Wet Jet up and running and then to put it to the test.
I first swept & mopped the kitchen floor the traditional way, and then I was going to re do it with the Swiffer Wet Jet to see how effective it really is.
The handles make it a breeze to manuever around the room and get under chairs easily which made it light & fun:) After a quick sqeeze here and there and swipe swipe, it was time to look at the bottom of the pads.
What in the la-de-da- there was dirt that my mop & broom had left behind! Hmmm,things aren’t looking so good for the mop & bucket now!
Now on to that jelly stain that I placed on the floor to dry to see if the scrubbing strip will help. After a few “scrubs” it did come off the floor and without much smearing all over the floor as I feared it would do.
Mission accomplished! I have a clean floor and a great new Swiffer Wet Jet to thank for it! The scent of the cleaning fluid is amazing too and leaves the whole house smelling light & fresh! All in all, this is a must have product for your home!

For the last month I’ve been trying out some wonderful products for the kitchen from Rubbermaid. The three food storage products that I have been using include a variety of sizes of Easy Find Lids, Premier and Produce Saver containers. My family has been able to put each and every container to the test and I must say I am very pleased with our experience.
We used to be that family with the stack of lids in the cabinet and no matter how hard you tried you could never find the right sized lid to fit the container you just filled. Well those days are over at my house thanks to the Easy Find Lids containers. The lids snap to the bottom of the container base so there is no need to play the search and hope it fits game. In addition to the lids snapping to the bottom of the container the lids also fit multiple bases and the graduated container sizes make it easy to stack and store. This has been a wonderful feature for our house as we have exceeded the space available in many of our cabinets. The containers also nest nicely on top of one another for stacking inside the refrigerator and or freezer to save even more space in your kitchen.
I also tried the Rubbermaid Produce Saver which uses the Easy Find Lids system to keep the lids and trays organized. The Produce Saver comes with a crisp tray to separate the moisture from your produce and a fresh vent to allow fruits and vegetables to breathe. These two features help to keep your produce fresh and crisp up to 33% longer than a traditional food container. These containers also come in graduated sizes and offer green colored tops and trays so they are easily distinguishable from the red Easy Find Lids. I found that the Produce Saver container came in handy for those bagged salads that can not be resealed.
With 2009 being my year to get completely organized, I had the pleasure of trying out The My Oh So Organized Filing System to try and get my poor filing cabinet in order and I am pleased to say that my cabinet looks so much BETTER and neater that I am proud of my work!
The system is pretty simple (although at first glance it looks a wee bit complicated) and consists of a guide with easy color-coded, pre-printed file labels and for this project, you will need to supply your own manila folders and hanging file folders. Also, set aside some time since this is a project that will take some organizing on your part once you have all files set up.
The My Oh So Organizing Kit System comes with a handy guide with complete and easy to understand instructions (don’t let it scare you- it only looks daunting!). It lists and explains each category, offering examples which I found to be rather helpful. You also get the pre-printed labels, and a sheet of blank labels in each color so you can add your own categories and customize your filing system ( since we all don’t have the same filing needs!).
Once finished, the next step is to place the labels to your file folders, in the order indicated and then start to file away your papers! This was the hardest part as I have a LOT of papers that needed filing and with this system, there was now a “Category” to place it in as opposed to just a “General/All Purpose” file.
Of course it does take a bit of time, especially if you have a lot of filing that needs to be done, but if you break it down into sessions, you’ll soon have an organized filing cabinet that works just like the dewey system at the library and you’ll be able to find all anything you want in a blink of an eye! I can honestly be proud of how my Filing Cabinet looks and I can find just about anything in it!
On a side note, I was so happy with my “Project” that I kept asking my dear hubby questions like “Betcha I can find the receipts to the car from last year” or “I wonder where are those financial aid papers for the school are, oh here they are, lol!!” I think he was a little sick of hearing me gloating:)
